The link to the Beachehead Mess, the Teheran Bar and the Reichstag has been eliminated from the main page of the club website.

You can still access those three forums from your member page, and you must log in to do that. Your member page will have the needed password to access those forums.

The club Bulletin Board is now the primary means of general announcements and inter member communications.

Also links within your members page include a link to a bulletin board restricted to members of each side, unaccessable to either.

Games Reporting Update subject logo: FLWGC
2010-01-03
Posted by: badanov

The scripts and the password elements that permit games registration and reporting (here ) will remain at that link for legacy purposes, however those scripts will not be updated nor maintained.

If you want assurance of accurate recording of games played, you should use the member's interface.

It is widely considered to be bad site maintenance practice to continue to use scripts which are not maintained updated, however, we have a number of older members here who have not logged in ever who only recall the only games registration interface.

In time, the games reporting page will be closed off permanently at some unspecified point.

A warning will be posted at the games reporting interface to alert members who have not logged in.

Dicussion of the Club Campaign Interface subject logo: FLWGC
2009-11-06
Posted by: badanov

Working on the local network web server, I have been designing a user interface for the wargame club that will allow commanders and members to operate military units, those they command as well as any subunits.

Previously when I attempted to use a separate set of scripts to create and seed military units, the interface was awful from an aesthetic perspective. Unless you had a grounding in what I was trying to do, the interface was difficult, I suspect.

No one ever used it but me.

Now that I am trying to move the club closer to a campaigns mode, the interface is becoming much more critical. At the moment the only thing I have accomplished so far is a means to display on a simple grid location of opposing units. Where before in a commander's console it would have been easier to simply list units a commander can command, the graphical interface becomes much more important in terms of facility.

What I hope to wind up with is a set of scripts that will be appealing to the wargamer on several levels allowing club members to plan and execute operations done not just by tactical game playing, but allowing the computer to take over basic repetitive tasks.

At the moment I have a working script that allows units which are properly supplied and deployed with an appropriate enemy target to conduct routine patrols, the outcomes of which will determine several issues such as losses inflicted as well as losses suffered, and basic intelligence. Another planned but yet to be implemented automated task is to allow commanders to combine a number of resources for small probes against an enemy unit with a limit on the number of elements of around two to three percent of the total forces.

For example, a divisional commander will be able to put together an operation which will include three percent max of his 5600 rifles, 324 submachine gunners, and 124 medium machine guns and 120 81mm/82mm mortars for a probe. One per operation per unit only. One per month. The probe outcome will be determined by the AI ( such as it is ) based on several factors such as enemy supply level, morale level, and so on. Losses will be recorded and applied with the result being the attacking commander will have a better picture of his enemy.

Critical to this project is the interface. It has to be intuitive and most of all secure. Right now wargaming is pretty much dead, so when it returns I want to make this interface ready when it does.

New Feature -- Club Units Encyclopedia -- UPDATED subject logo: FLWGC
2009-09-27
Posted by: badanov

Update: Check out the Red Army first.

The link ion the title goes to a page which will eventually list all the current club units and their composition. This new scheme will be the basis for keeping track of unit compositions and losses in campaign games/battles.

This system makes it much easier to seed new units and new campaigns by providing an atomic means of seeding unit compositions by type.

If there is a problem with unit composition, you I am certain there will be, please post your reservations on the local bulletin board so that they be addressed, and discussed.

First Automated Tournament for FLWGC subject logo: FLWGC
2009-08-18
Posted by: badanov

I am still testing and modifying, but the first automated tournament is scheduled to begin August 28. That's a ten day window for signups.

The rules have yet to be written, and they are governed by what I was able to program:

Brackets are open and random. You won't be facing anyone in a bracket. Your per round opponent is essentially random. You may be facing off from someone in your oewn army or someone from the other side.

Given the nature of wargaming, we will likely never have a field of 8 or 16 or even 32 signups at first, and far more likely to have odd bracket and odd participant numbers.

Therefore, some participants will be given byes on a round for which there is no discernible reason other than they are the odd man out after pairings have been done for a round.

The tournament round close automatically. As soon as all members playing in a round have reported their game, the tournament advances without further input from anyone.

Pairings are done manually in that a button is pushed and a script assigns pairings then assigns games per round. Game registration is totally automated, but game result reporting is to be done by one member of each game.

Automated pairings and game assignment may come down the pike after a while, but for now the system in place now will work fine.

The tournament has been tested for basic function, but it hasn't been stress tested, and I still must add a number of safeties to ensure basic tournament operation integrity. These are major issues but easily resolvable over the next 10 days.

One additional major change for the club which will come out of this will be the shared game reporting interface will eventually be replaced with members pages and log ins.

On the front page just below the log in link you will find a link to military music.

This is a new feature which, while you visit the Club website will open a small popup box and a small list of military music marches and tune from various nations, mostly what I could find.

Just hover your mouse over the link. Your browser must be set to accept popups and must accept javascript for the feature towork. Firefox will allow you to permit poups at just this site.

New Log In Link subject logo: FLWGC
2009-07-28
Posted by: badanov

I have included a link to a generic log in for members at the top of the main page. It will redirect you to a secure interface then re-redirect you to your FLWGC account.

You can still use the normal log in at the members page.

The link is to help newer members or older members not totally familiar with the log in system at the FLWGC club website.
